When to take morale tests during a hit hit result

HI guys, a question came about whilst playing BG, I am a seasoned player but couldnt answer this one - nor could the other chaps - and weve played many times. So the question is simply during a fire fire order how does morale get taken- is it? Open fire order on a single target so - observe (seen it twice so can fire twice - ok, fire and hit but do not penetrate or destroy with the first round DOES THE TGT THEN TAKE A MORALE CHECK at this stage ? or does it wait to see the outcome of the second round and if it doesnt penetrate he takes two morale checks?
so either Observe observe fire hit fail to penetrate morale check fire hit fail to penetrate morale check
or Observe observe fire hit fail to penetrate fire hit fail to penetrate morale check morale check?

another question is if it is observe observe fire hit fail to penetrate morale check - and he gets a beyond the call of duty and passes and kills you does the other hit not happen?

this all said do we literally roll for the first round, complete the sequence and then try with the second round (morale checks thus being done at the end of each hit)

You take morale tests at the end of each non-penetrating shot.
So, If enemy gets a succesful BTCOD test, then he can fire back to you BEFORE the second shots hits home.
Generally you roll twice to observe to save time, but the correct sequence is to observe once, resolve the effects, then observe again.

Yep, happened twice in our Steamroller Farm game last Friday!  Churchill tank machine gunned an 88 crew which lost a gunner, rolled a 6 for morale and took out two British tanks; next turn the same thing happened!
