Pinning effect with adjacent units Empty Pinning effect with adjacent units

Sun Nov 13, 2022 5:33 pm
Hi All, this comes up ocassionally in various games and I would like to get some opinions on it.
Imagine a german rifle team of 5 figs next to an lmg team of 3 figs positioned behind a hedge or similar.
It might equally be a Pz Shreck team and an LMG team but the point is that more than one team are adjacent to each other.
Now if a British rifle section of 10 figs tries to perform suppressive fire (Area fire) across its frontage (about 8" in 20mm scale) which happens to encompass more than one enemy team or sub unit do you decide which individual team is potentially effected or if a PIN results is it considered to be on all within the area of pinning fire?
Any comments are welcome.

suppresive fire is directed at an enemy unit, not an area. You must choose a valid target before.

In reality, the riflemen are there to support the heavy weapon so if the MG team is hit, the riflemen replace the crew so the gun stays in action. All armies since WWI are trained to do this. German squad and platoon tactics in WWII relied solely on the firepower of their LMG while the riflemen guarded the flanks and kept up the ammo supply for the ever hungry gun. So you can legitimately apply the pin to the rifle team because they are now fully occupied taking over the MG which stays in action 'under new management' ......yes, it was really hard to suppress a machine gun Cool
