The hard fought engagement at Khoriv finally came to an end tonight when elements of 11th Panzer captured and successfully held the village against repeated Soviet counter attacks despite suffering considerable losses.  The final rounds of combat opened with a Russian mortar barrage that went off target scoring two direct hit on their own infantry in the forward trench, however they were able to shrug these off by making good use of cover.  BA-6 armored cars used their 45mm guns to good effect and knocked out two panzer III's for the loss of one of their own, while an infantry assault by dismounted schutzen stalled in front of the fortified house a second time, however two brave survivors from another depleted squad managed to capture the building, assisted by heavy machine gun fire from Dillon's panzer IV's.  Both men are recommended for the Iron Cross, 1st Class.   A posthumous award goes to the brave sanitater who gave his life attempting to save a kamerad.

The last panzer III burst into flames, but the pressure was relieved to an extent by another BA-6 breaking down and artillery fire pinning most of its comrades.

Losses began to mount on both sides as waves of Soviet infantry surged forward and the leading squad went Beyond the call of duty succeeded in capturing the house on the Eastern side of the village; an attempted counter attack was stalled when the leading panzer IV fell victim to a stray land mine

The situation looked desperate but suddenly out of the skies came the sound of wailing sirens and falling bombs - the Luftwaffe was here to save the day!

A direct hit on the log house reduced it to matchwood and splinters, with the occupants blown to pieces; one lone survivor was left clutching his rifle in shock and terror but was quickly dispatched by riflemen in the fortified building across the street.  That was enough for the Russians: their force morale collapsed and they abandoned the field.

Fortunately our PK camera man was on hand to record the Luftwaffe's moment of glory!
