T19 ammunition supply
Tue Sep 11, 2018 7:14 am
When using a pair of T19s (halftracks armed with 105mm howitzers) I was surprised by the low ammunition supply , only 2 rounds of fire. I coped during the game by having a supply truck parked between the shoveling rounds to them.
On checking my sources I found they only carried 8 rounds, but vehicles towed a trailer with another 32. Making a total of 40. If a BG ratio of 10:1 is used then the ammo supply should be 4 rounds of fire. But does this effect the points cost?
Also is there any evidence for half tracks being used by the US for ammunition supply?

2 ammo is in harmony with the rest of the self-proppelled artillery in the game (think of a wespe with only 3).
But if you think they would have 4, then try it with 4! Remmeber point costs are a reference, not a rule written in stone.

Diego

I would just buy an ammo carrier and model it as a trailer. I don't tend to change a whole lot as far as stats in the game.

Would you go into close action with the enemy towing a trailer of ammo?
I wouldnt.
I wouldnt.

No, but I wouldn't complain about how many rounds a vehicle carries in Battlegroup, either, so there is that...

It's not a vehicle intended to go into close action in the first place, but I'd guess if it found itself in those circumstances they'd either fire as much ammo from the trailer as possible then abandon it and scoot, or just bug out. If they were deliberately assigned a direct fire role they'd probably leave the trailer in a harbour somewhere.

So as I always say... off board is best.
But a supply truck is a must if you want toys on table.
Think of it as the trailer...

At 2 I was being generous, because 1 doesn't even get you a full turn firing. Model the trailers as your supply truck... it'll look cool. The game doesn;t (anywhere I think), worry about what a vehcile can tow in trailer as well... because, well, it just gets overly complex. Small vehicle, big gun... it has consequences!

Thanks but I was also interested in the effect on the points value of increasing ammunition supply as additional rounds were often piled onboard or carried in a trailer or limber, despite the risjks.
