Forward Aid Post : Medic special Rule or not ?
Sat May 19, 2018 8:28 pm
Should the Forward Aid Post in the Canadian 3rd Army list from the Main Rule Book have the Medic special rule it only has Unique? (MRB Page 113 and the German on page 120) Witch just makes it a BR bonus with no more game affect other than to look pretty on the Table.
In Battles Beyond the Beaches the Forward Aid Post has Medic Rule as well as Unique (BBtB Page 153)
(Main Rule Book ) Forward Aid Post….20 pts 5-i BR (Restricted)
Unit Composition: 4 men with a tent
Special Rules: Unique
(Battles Beyond the Beaches) Forward Aid Post….20 pts 5-i BR (Restricted)
Unit Composition: 4 men with a tent
Special Rules: Medic,Unique
If Forward Aid Posts is supposed to have Medic special rule would it move to within 1” of the affected unit? (This would be a bit odd to keep moving the aid post and would not happen in reality)
Should the Aid Post have a Stretcher party that would move to the unit affected?)

I feel like this question was already answered pretty thoroughly on the Facebook page just this morning... is this a co-incidence, or are you the same chap just hoping to get a different answer?

Did not think it actually got answered as to Why Aid post in Main Rules does not have Medic Rule and same Aid Post in Battles Beyond the Beaches has the Medic Rule.
Witch is correct as they are the same value for the same unit with different rules.

Does it actually matter? Would how you employ the Forward Aid post on the table change dependent on if it has the Medic rule or not? If it Does get the medic rule are you going to park it in the middle of your infantry platoon for maximum coverage? It's a cheap source of BR, and an excuse to use models that otherwise wouldn't see the light of day - that is it's purpose. It's also probably why whether it gets medic or not is so inconsistently applied, because it's not a factor the writers really consider, so it just depends where it gets copy-pasted from when doing the layout. If anyone is getting shot within 5" of where you parked your little medical vignette, something has gone horribly, horribly wrong.

Forward Aid post quite frequently used by us and not just a pretty model, as with our smaller 350 point battles really find 5BR for 20 points a good boost. Any medic advantage is never really considered.

The way I look at it is it's a 4 wound medic that you would use in a defensive mission . Hiding it behind a building or some other obstacle. Maybe in a reinforced building That's close to the infantry, towed guns or the likes.
I would also play as being mobile, but only if being transported by an ambulance, and only an ambulance. Once it disembarks they are stuck in that spot until it gets back into the ambulance.
Once it is placed you can not give any orders to it, with the exception of leaving the battlefield.

It was never really intended that the forward aid station would have the medic rule... as that requires mobility. Ot was just a cheap way to buy some BR and have a nice diorama at the back of the table. That was its only roles. Medic is for those guys dashing about to the wounded. I got carried away in Overlord and, for some reason, added Medic to aid stations. My bad. It doesn't really mater if they do have the rule, just assume a medic has run off from the aid station to the closeby unit in need. But don't move the tent around... that would be odd. So, play without Medic would be my suggestion and take the BR boost.

Well then maybe, Warwick, you guys need to do an errata or a faq to clarify the rules and units so people don't have to guess at it.

But you DON'T have to "guess at it". If it has the rule as in Overlord you get it, and otherwise you don't. No guesswork to be had!

We had years worth of FAQ compiled at the Guild Forum. Due to its sudden demise, all of this was lost. Not something easily replicated, sadly.

So it would make sense to have an errata document as a Download....would hardly get lost even if another forum quits

Sure, but we would have to make it first, and it would need to be continually updated, which is a ton of work.

What if us, the Fanboys of BG, all help. Let's set it up on FB. Like a living errata kind of thing. We can submit the issue and the fix. Then you guys, the designers of the game can make updates and edit what we submitted. We could do it for each books, it would take a lot of pressure off of you guys to come up with and update for the issues.

Well forget my last post on here. I never looked at the dispatch reports before yesterday. I was looking for something that actually said "Errata". Thursday a friendly told me where the arrate is located, Dispatch 2. But there are still a few more that need to be added.
