Stalingrad Empty Stalingrad

Sat Mar 03, 2018 6:55 pm
Finally started my Stalingrad project this weekend by giving my old mdf factory a facelift with some brick plasticard. I've got two more kits on the way, one of which is a 30" long Red October Factory. Hopefully a 4x4 won't be too difficult to fill up, as I'm looking to make it as dense as possible.

My friend and I will be using army lists from Barbarossa, each of us collecting mid war winter models largely from Battlefront. I plan on using a Soviet force based around two rifle platoons, supported by a number of infantry and AT guns . Few, if any, vehicles will be used, though I do plan on adding some Komsomolyets tractors for variety, perhaps as a ride for my FWHQ and as a tow for some guns.

Got the new factory MDF kits in but having trouble with the pictures.
Rules Mods to BG Barbarossa suggestions so far...
Soviets get "Backs to the Volga (Berlin)' stackable with 'For the Motherland". Germans do not get "The Fuhrer is with us" as things are not going as planned in Stalingrad. *Backs to the Volga will be for early battle only.

Sniper Ace. Unique. Upgrade one sniper to elite with +1 to aimed fire.

Air attack chits are a 1 time area fire with guns only and no bombs as the lines are too close.

Open to thoughts and suggestions! Excited to get this moving.

Hey! This is Strombones gaming partner (rival).

For this project I will be collecting a German Infantry Division from the Barbarossa book. Obviously we are both going to go heavy infantry with a focus on house to house clearing. We game in 15mm and mostly utilize Flames of War infantry and Plastic Soldier Company tanks, I'll leave Strombones to talk about his terrain (he is fanatical about it).

I was wondering if anyone more versed in Stalingrad would be able to let me know the sorts of AT Guns, Infantry Support Guns, and any special equipment that you feel would fit with the time. My minor rules adjustment would be to allow a squad to replace their rifles with SMGs, it was close quarters after all! Also, obviously give the Russians an extra 3d6 BR to give Strombones a chance.

I would love to know if anyone else has Stalingrad ideas!

Yeah I definitely plan on having a big Bag O' rubble mix of gravel, bricks, boards, ect.. a la Piers.

Progress coming along. Will add two more tiles this week. Thanks for the comments! This board will also serve as my NORTHAG battle field as well as some FOTR. Stalingrad Img_2025

Made some progress on Soviet defences. AT gun dugout. mG dug out. FAO. Forward aid post and a trench line.

Here is my Soviet Army so far. I was unsure about the t 34s but considering they are in Barbarossa I think they will be fine. As we will be playing the earlier winter months of Stalingrad, I may throw some Low Fuel chits in there for Soviets only.

Otherwise I feel I've got a good base going, just need to fill in those rifle squads. Headysburg is still waiting on a back order from Battlefront ( I suggest not buying from them direct), but I'm sure he'll jump on here and showcase so.e of his great looking cold weather German troops.
