MG's in tanks
Mon Mar 01, 2021 7:15 pm
So, during last game we really noticed that we have no idea how these work. Lets take a Sherman for example. It has a cannon and 2 MG's, what firing combos it can have and how to solve those?
-Is it possible to fire both, the main gun and MG's) in same order if tank is stationary with "Open fire!" order? Like firing supressive HE to infantry unit and then aimed fire with MG(s) assuming observation test is passed to finish that target off? How many MGs can fire if LoS is good? And if this is possible can it fire all guns twice since stationary?
-What if the firing tank moved, can it fire 2 differend weapon types, like coaxial MG and main gun?
-If it's possible to fire all guns can their targets be separate? Like Aimed AP with main gun and supressive fire from MG('s) to another target?
-If tank moved or is going to move can it still fire both MG's it have? If it can these must be to single target? Or does it have to choose either hull or turret coaxial MG and use only one weapon?
-Can tanks have pintle mounted MGs as upgrade or are those nasty looking 50 cal's "just for the looks" on top of Sherman turrets?
Probably bit silly things to ask but... Just had 9h long game and my brains aren't working properly.

Yes but you cannot fire the main and coaxial it’s one or the other.
-What if the firing tank moved, can it fire 2 differend weapon types, like coaxial MG and main gun?
No you can only fire the main gun or both machine guns.
-If it's possible to fire all guns can their targets be separate? Like Aimed AP with main gun and supressive fire from MG('s) to another target?
Yes you can fire at different targets, but again main gun or coaxial not both
-If tank moved or is going to move can it still fire both MG's it have? If it can these must be to single target? Or does it have to choose either hull or turret coaxial MG and use only one weapon?
Both but they must be at the same target.

Pintle MGs are only used for AA fire.

Just to clarify the first answer.
1st Fire order main gun or coaxial and hull MG
2nd Fire order both MGs or the main gun
1st Fire order main gun or coaxial and hull MG
2nd Fire order both MGs or the main gun

Pintle mounts can only fire AA? What about the pintle mounts on German halftracks--they were certainly used against ground targets?

The poster was asking about pintle mounts on tanks, the one on half-tracks can be used to fire at ground targets.

Can a half-track fire both mg’s in the same order then? The front and the pintle one.

Hi Phill
can you please tell me where in the rules you find that Pintle MGs are only used for AA fire
