Snipers and other questions
Thu Mar 29, 2018 7:59 am
Snipers spot and roll to hit like any other small arms ,, but they get to choose who is killed.
If they shoot the guy with the Bren gun , does someone else pick it up?
Or if they shoot the gunner of an anti tank gun , does someone else just take over?
How does shooting at a truck or halftrack towing a gun work?
Can you shoot at the gun and crew? Or do you just shoot the truck and then put the excess hits n the crew?

I don't think anyone picks up the Bren, Panzerfaust, LMG, etc. Based on the fact the infantry nearby don't want to be the next target and that negates the usefulness of the sniper in game terms.
AT crew loses I think are just that, anyone operates the gun, there is no specific figure that represents the gunner.
I would think the truck would be the target but it would have to be a truck with only 2 hits to be effective (so no left over hits) The sniper would have no effect on the Halftrack as it is armoured and would not be able to suppress it unless it was 10" away on a 6+.

Snipers can pick a target were their is a target to be picked. So, LMG gunner, panzerfaust, officer, yes, a truck is just a truck, you can't shoot at crew, or passengers in the rules. Same with the HT, or towed gun, the vehicle is the target. Once deployed go for gunners, but they are all the same in game terms, it's a man down and a morale test (the bit you want).

Also, Snipers do NOT spot just like other troops-- they get a +1, which is invaluable in a D6 centric game!

Suppressing small teams
Sat Mar 31, 2018 11:50 pm
Just checking as the guys got a bit agitated about this in today’s game. There is no benefit to being a small three man team when being shot at by suppressive fire is there?
And when charging with the stahl order, can all the tanks under that order fire to suppress one target?
The guys found their FOOs vulnerable, but my reading is we were playing right.

The Three man team penalty applies to Aimed Fire. Not suppressing fire that sprays an area.
FOOs are vulnerable? The most dangerous job in army? Yes... thats right. They are.
In Allied forces, an FOO often measured his life expectancy in minutes, with 7 being common in Normandy and as low as 15 seconds around Monte Cassino. Few managed more than two weeks with a unit before either being killed or wounded.
So yes... like any small unit, they are vulnerable. Hence why they need cover and to keep away from the enemy.

With a 70" spotting range, unless you are playing in dense terrain with no reasonable vantage points... how are they getting shot at enough to be considered an issue?
@Piers Yeesh, how did they ever manage to keep enough of them in the field? Or is that the life expectancy once the shooting starts, not inclusive of all the hurry-up-and-wait gamers and movie makers always forget is a big part of the soldiers day?

Thanks Piers, good to have it confirmed.
Any thoughts on the stahl order and targeting question please.

1) Supressing fire has the same effect on big or small teams. squad size is irrelevant.
2) By the rules, all tanks under Stal, Stal, Stal can pick their targets individually without restriction. So, yes, they can all fire at the same target. Just be aware that the shooting can be done only with HE or MG fire.
Hoper that helps,

Diego
