Premeasurement of firing arcs Empty Position tank after succesfull overrun

Tue Feb 27, 2018 11:19 am
Does the tank stay where he contacted the enemy gun or does he take the guns position? It was important in our game in the woods.

cheers

I would say no. The tank moves up to its movement allowance.

No premeasuring means.....no premeasuring. So no.

For me it would count as if the tank had hit an obstacle, so it stops (in this case in position where the gun was)

Not pre-measuring range I can understand; dust, atmospheric conditions, even battlefield stress might easily make ranging less than exact, and one might take a shot anyway.

However, if a target is out of arc you're not going to be able to bear on it at all, so why would you shoot at all? Gunners are not all idiots.

I know the issue. It only crops up if the target is very close to the legs of the firing arc for the deployed gun (90 degrees) or fixed gun tanks (45 degrees). If you used the gun/tank a few times (StuG for life) you can guess quite well what it can and can't hit. If it is close to the legs we just roll a D6 if we are allowed to take the shot or not. But no premeasuring for me.

Not all gunners are idiots indeed. Same can be said for the tankcommanders. But in the heat of battle people make mistakes. Such is life.

And as always, if you think your game plays better if you pre measure, there is no one stopping you. Having fun is the nr 1 rule in Battlegroup.

Checking firing arcs is fine, that just determines if your even allowed to measure range. On most units its irrelevant anyway, with 360, nut for deployed guns etc, let them check, and if no, chooses another target. No need to be overly rules lawyer about it... let them spend the orders and shoot away, and do the same back.

Thx for the verdict. As we were divided 2 vs 2 I much prefer your opinion. With 3 versus 1 there is no real discussion but with 2 versus 2 none of us want's to force our opinion upon the dissenting party Very Happy

I made a 45° template and use a linear laser to check firearcs. It is quick and easy.
