Fall of the Reich 500pts Meeting engagement Empty Fall of the Reich 500pts Meeting engagement

Tue Dec 04, 2018 9:47 am
Had a quick game sunday night.
My Germans vs. a friends americans.

Fall of the Reich 500pts Meeting engagement Obs6r68

I brought along a ragtag group of germans with both new and old equipment.

My opponent brought along some light tanks, halftrack mortars, an armoured infantry platoon and a Jumbo.

Our battlefield was the unnamed ruins of a german city.

We set up 4 objectives in the game:

First was a fallen german position located near the US deployment zone:

Second was some valuable fuel caught in previous crossfire:

Third was a disabled Tiger, located near the German deployment:

Fourth, and most important, was an unguarded beertruck!

In the first US turn, the americans seized an objective and the Germans pulled the first Air Attack counter of the game.  Unfortunately the Luftwaffe did not feel like assisting their footslogging friends.

The germans rolled snake eyes for orders and moved a few units forward.

In second and third turn, the americans were able to grab another objective and maneuver into better positions.

The Germans rolled snake eyes for orders once more in the second turn and opted to reroll one of the order dice, resulting in a total of 3 orders before adding their two officers. No
Moving a few units into position, the germans established a line of defence very close to their deployment zone.

For the third turn, the germans had a few more orders to use and reinforced their positions and sent off the 222, to scout the area ahead.

The Americans proceeded to move ahead carfully and starting using their mortars to harass the enemy, without much effect.

The german 222 saw an opening an took it, driving through an abandoned factory to get a shot at a US halftrack filled with infantry.

Direct hit! The halftrack went up in flames! The infantry were not impressed and rolled a 6 for their morale check and passed their "Beyond the call of duty"-check and destroyed the 222 with their bazooka.

The sturmtiger moved slowly up the road, waiting for the right time to fire the big gun.

The americans pushed forward with their light tanks and missed the Shreckteam hiding behind a building with a reserve move order.
A Chaffee went up in smoke, but the shot towards the Stuart missed.

The shreck-team were promptly eliminated.

Germany were now on the offensive again and pushed the Americans further back. All units moved forward to pressure the americans.

The Sdkfz 251/16 eliminated an infantry squad and forced the US-player to refocus the attention of the Stuart.

The americans attempted a flanking mission with their Jumbo to get in position to fire a shot at the Sturmtiger or PzIV, through the ruined factory.

Finally seeing a target worthy of the 380mm gun, the Sturmtiger turned to see the Jumbo, but failed to properly spot him.

A brave squad of grenadiers grabbed their Pzfausts and successfully moved forward to engage and destroy the Stuart.

The Sdkfz 251/16 went forward and set fire to an M16 trying to protect the flank.

The american infantry was now mostly pinned by german MG-fire and only had the Jumbo and their mortars left to fight.

Jumbo failed to damage the sturmtiger and the mortars could only pin a single MG-team.

With both the Jumbo and Sturmtiger sitting still, the Sturmtiger could successfully spot and hit the american tank.

With no real fighting force left, the germans began cleaning the german streets and sent the Sdkfz 251/16 further forward to prevent the americans from escaping.

End of game.

Great game marked by some unlucky order rolls from the germans in the beginning, and some very lucky hits and penetration rolls from the germans, when they finally began to push back.

The american player pulled mostly 1's and 2's from the chits bag and I pulled a few 5's and 4's. So in the end it was close enough in BR, but with the americans almost completely wiped from the table.
