Fortified Bocage

on Wed Jun 27, 2018 12:28 pm
Having only the original Overlord book, this question has baffled me...
Why is it that only the Fallshirmjager can have a 'Fortified Bocage'?
The German Infantry Division list does not include it.

Cos FJ were only really in the bocage sector while Infantry fought British and US. So it themes FJ to the area they served in and stop British running into fortified Bocage.

I'm guessing that's why we did it. Can't remember.

But you can always just use it in the Infantry list I'd you want...

91 Luftlanding Division fought in bocage country against US Airborne and they're Heer.  But your rationale is perfectly good.   Sometimes/often/always you have to force the history on to players.

The players that don't care for the historical details are less likely to ignore the list restrictions.

The players that do care about the historical details are less likely to let the list restrictions stop them reflecting that detail!

Everyone wins!

Except people who want to throw history in the bin and 'just play a game' - but f**k those guys! Razz

There is a saying, of which I'm fond, 'rules are for the guidance of wise men, and the adherence of fools'. I think this applies well to historical wargames, which aren't a competitive sport. History should guide you as well as the rulebook... if a scenario requires infantry in a bocage fortress, just go for it. The gaming police won't be calling round.
