American victories in Storming the La Fiere Causway

on Sun Jun 24, 2018 7:50 pm
How many of you have been able to edge out an American victory? My friend has play tested this scenario and the Americans get hammered each time. We played it again the past evening with the same result.

Cheers,

Kirk

It's a very tough scenario. Makes you really appreciate what they did in real life.

It is indeed a difficult scenario for the US side, like it was in real life.

But reading the scenario discreption, there are three points, where you can finetune the scenario, to make it a little bit easier for the GI's. Very Happy

1.) Add Foxholes for the inital troops. The US Paras where holding the position for several days already and had dug foxholes for protection.

2.) Reduce the effect of the unmarked minefield on the bridge only (and maybe a few inchs towards the causeway). The mines where placed by the defending Paratroopers. Because of the withering German fire they were placed on the bridge and near the bridge, but not along the whole causeway.

3.) A little tinkering with the Causeway of Fear rule. This rule is very harsh, especially the effect that when you loose 1d3 men, you have to take an additional morale test. As you are already pinned by the 1-2 result, the chance that your unit will rout, is great. Either do not count the unit as pinned when it takes casualities, or waive the second morale test.

Three little changes, two of them historical, that might work.

Another way to make this scenario a little more competitive: play it two times, and change sides. The player who score best with the Germans, wins. cheers
