What do you think is the best aircraft scale for battgr in 15mm?
I see using both 10mm and 15.

How much money do you have? How much space? What do you think looks best? There is no such thing as a Best scale for X or Y, that will be your decision, not anyone elses. There is a wide range available in 1/100, 1/144 and 1/200, in plastic or resin. Same goes for decals, quite a good selection these days.

I'm building some 1/72 for my 15mm games. I believe this gives a better visual and psychological impact. I have been using 1/144 but the aircraft are smaller than the other models, which seems odd when one has a bird's eye view wherein the aircraft should be closer (and therefore larger) to the eye.

A very interesting and useful point of view.
I like the idea of 1/72.

I never really got the different sized aircraft thing... why not just use those for the scale/size you are playing at? I've never found a ww2 aircraft for BG there is no model kit for (at 1/72 anyway). If the same rule would apply, would you use 1/56th aircraft in 20mm games? I'd say using a small aircraft (its far away) or bigger (its closer to your view) was somewhat over-thinking the issue. Get a 1/100 aircraft for 15mm games, why anything else? There are loads out there (although I;m not so sure on 1/100th scale), but you only need the main ones anyway...

I agree with what you said, but hearing different opinions on the variation of scale for an airplane is not wrong, since some play with different land / air scale.
It can highlight new aspects related perhaps to "aesthetics" or anything other than the game.
I repeat: I agree with you on using the 15 or 20mm scale if I play with 15 or 20mm miniatures for vehicles or vehicles, as well as landscaping. But if someone advises me differently I willingly accept what is proposed and maybe change my mind.

Andrea
(I hope that the translation does not impress wrong tones, no controversy but only healthy discussions)

I've tried twice already to reply to this thread but lost signal both times so hopefully this will work.

Started of with 1/100 Airfix Minikits which were great pre-painted and minimal assembly. Unfortunately they stopped doing them and there were few alternatives at the time which were somewhat pricey too. As a result I switched to 1/144 Revell and Zvezda although not built and painted many as yet. Options in 1/100 much better now off the top of my head there's Victrix Old Glory QRF as well as AiM already mentioned. The old Airfix Minikits are available from someone else now but the name escapes me.

My suggestion would therefore be to go with 1/100 even though it's not what I'm doing.

I'm in your same situation.
I have the three stukas of the vixtrix (moreover "knocked down" by one of my dogs that perhaps was believed to be a "raider") and a p40 Battelfront purchased with the belief that it was 1/100 scale.
I would prefer to continue with vixtrix with the hope that I will expand the aircraft.
I will still try OG and AiM

Andrea

Some of the Corgi diecast models are 15mm scale - I have a couple of Stukas and an ME-109 which are good for 12mm and 15mm, very slightly larger than the F-Toys/Dragon/Takara ones but unless side by side they are fine.

I'd consider going as small as 6mm aircraft, actually. Harder to knock over the planes that way if you use a metal washer under the flying base. I think that the Space Battleship Yamato 262s are in roughly 1/300 scale, and I'm using them for my Weird War 2 air support.

For 1/200, that's the scale Ares did for their Wings of War WW2 models. You can get most of what you need for Air support from them, particularly Stukas and Bf109s.

1/144 is a standard plastic-modeling scale, I think you can find everything in that scale!

1/100 is the hardest to find models in (especially helicopters for Vietnam to moderns, haven't found a SeaCobra model in 1/100 at all...)

1/72 is another standard plastic-modeling scale. I'm kinda tempted to start WW3 in 20mm, just so I can use that Hawker P1214 from Fantastic Plastic. A supersonic harrier! http://fantastic-plastic.com/PayasP1214.htm

I thought about getting 1/72, 15mm or 1/144 scaled aircraft for 20 and 15mm Battlegroup, and ended up deciding to just follow the easiest path. 20mm armies get 1/72 aircraft and 15mm armies get 1/144 ones because these scales are standards of airplane models and can thus be found easily.
When you're playing WW2, you can pretty much find Stukas or P-51s in all scales, but finding a Ka-29 or MiG-23BN in 15mm is a tad harder and/or more expensive.
